Springfield Ballet Company and Springfield Youth Performance Group Align Resources

May 20, 2020 (Springfield, IL) – The Springfield Ballet Company and the Springfield Youth Performance Group are excited to announce an alliance that offers each organization the opportunity to enhance and expand their current dance programming. Together, the two non-profit organizations will share resources to create the Springfield Youth Ballet Company, which will allow local youth the opportunity to experience the joy of ballet while enhancing their formal dance education and training. Both organizations will continue to expand current community programming and blend efforts to offer new opportunities to serve the central Illinois area.

The Springfield Youth Ballet Company will become the third tier of programming for the Springfield Ballet Company. The three tiers will include the Springfield Ballet Company, the Springfield Ballet Company’s Training Academy, and the Springfield Youth Ballet Company. Auditions will take place as soon as possible. Please visit the Springfield Ballet Company’s website at www.springfieldballetco.org to check for updates regarding audition dates and times.

The Springfield Ballet Company (SBC) is one of the oldest and most respected professional arts organizations in the community. SBC is a civic, not-for-profit ballet company that has been entertaining and educating area audiences since 1975. It offers three major performances each year, including The Nutcracker, which is considered a holiday tradition for families in the area. The Springfield Ballet Company further serves and engages the community by performing at local festivals, schools, assisted living facilities and nursing homes throughout central Illinois. SBC also offers several community outreach programs to expose new participants and audiences to the art of dance. Artistic Director Julie Ratz, Ballet Mistress Gina DeCroix Russell, and Development Director Scott Raper serve as staff for the Springfield Ballet Company.

Since 2005, the Springfield Youth Performance Group (SYPG) has been encouraging and cultivating the artistic talents of youth in the local community by giving children ages seven and older the opportunity to perform on stage with other dancers. The Springfield Youth Performance Group Foundation was formed in 2012 and was created to provide financial and community outreach support to local organizations that strive for excellence in arts. The Foundation currently supports three significant programs, including Mighty Movers, The Smile Co., and Books on Stage. Executive Director Taryn Grant and Artistic Director Caitlin Helton Scherer serve as staff for the Springfield Youth Performance Group.

The Springfield Ballet Company and the Springfield Youth Performance Group will stay true to their vision, mission, and core values. Moving forward, they will work together as a larger ballet family to continue educating, entertaining, and serving area dancers and the local communities.
