BUNN and US Bank proudly present the Springfield Ballet Company’s 24th annual production of Rockballet, with live music by Downstate set for Saturday, September 16 at 8 pm and Sunday, September 17 at 2 pm at Sangamon Auditorium. Tickets are available by calling Sangamon Auditorium’s ticket office at 217-206-6160 or online HERE.

Rockballet: MIXTAPE is a compilation of our choreographers’ carefully chosen pieces of music – the music that they would absolutely put on a mixtape. Selection of the songs and the arrangement of the playlist are open to individual interpretation. However, we have the progression of life and its various relationships in mind,” said SBC Artistic Director Julie Ratz.

Every year, Rockballet grabs hold of a contemporary approach to classical movement and throws in a thematic twist. The idea of a mixtape elicits a nostalgic era in the 80s and 90s when music was still being “discovered” and not available with just the click of a button.

A good mixtape has your favorite songs on it.

A great mixtape introduces you to songs you never knew you needed.

WYMG is the media sponsor for this year’s production.

A vivid and exciting mix of adventurous choreography, memorable music and high-intensity dancing, Rockballet promises to be an unforgettable performance. It is music visualized.

The Springfield Ballet Company is a civic, not-for-profit ballet company that has been entertaining and educating area audiences since 1975 and is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. The company offers three major productions at the University of Illinois at Springfield’s Sangamon Auditorium each year, and also performs at festivals, schools and nursing homes throughout central Illinois. SBC is committed to providing equitable opportunities for company dancers to be trained in and to perform the art of dance, and to offer opportunities for all members of the central Illinois community to be educated and entertained.

Other upcoming SBC events include The Nutcracker, on December 9 and 10, 2017, and a storybook ballet, Faerie Tale, April 14 and 15, 2018 at Sangamon Auditorium. Open auditions for The Nutcracker will be held on Sunday, September 10. For more information, please contact Artistic Director Julie Ratz or Administrative Director Sally Hamilton at (217) 544-1967.
