Springfield Ballet Company To Conduct Intensive Summer Dance Workshop

Springfield, IL – Five outstanding professional dancers and choreographers from around the country will share their skills at the Springfield Ballet Company’s annual Intensive Summer Dance Workshop during the first two weeks of August. The workshop is open to all area dancers who are at least 10 years old.

The first week, August 3-7, features modern dance instruction by Krenley Guzman, MFA University of California Los Angeles, ballet and Pilates classes by Lance and Amy Hardin, Avante Garde School of Dance, Denver Colorado. The second week, Aug. 10-14 will include ballet classes taught by Carolina Ballet Theatre Artistic Director Hernan Justo and Jazz classes with Francesca Genovesa, a Carolina Ballet Theater company member and instructor.

“The workshop is a great way for dancers to supplement their training and improve their skills while working with outstanding teachers in a positive and nurturing environment,” said SBC Artistic Director Julie Ratz.

During the two weeks of workshop, classes run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Springfield Ballet Company's studio on the 2nd floor of the Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 South Sixth Street. The fee for the 10-day session is $300, or $15 per class, payable in advance to the SBC.  Space is available for 20 non-company dancers, and admission is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Springfield Ballet Company is a civic not-for-profit ballet company that has been entertaining and educating area audiences since 1975. The company offers two major productions at the University of Illinois at Springfield's Sangamon Auditorium each year, and also performs at festivals, schools and nursing homes throughout central Illinois.  SBC is committed to providing equitable opportunities for company dancers to be trained in and to perform the art of dance, as well as offering opportunities for all members of the central Illinois community to be educated and entertained.
