The SBC is proud to host a Girl Scouts Workshop for Daisy Girl Scouts, Brownie Girl Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts troops in the Central Illinois Council. Through an interactive movement class and by attending a live dance performance in a professional theater, Brownie Girl Scouts will earn the Brownie Dancer Badge, and Daisy Girl Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts can earn a dance fun patch. Badges and patches can be purchased at the Trefoil Boutique. New for 2017! Participants will also receive a Springfield Ballet Company patch to add to their collection!

This unique program brings the scouts into the SBC’s rehearsal studio and introduces them to variety of dance styles. Using a hands-on format, Artistic Director Julie Ratz, Ballet Mistress Gina DeCroix Russell, and current SBC dancers teach scouts the basic movement elements of ballet, modern, tap and jazz. They also discuss costuming, dancer training, performance preparation, terminology, history and the technical elements of a dance performance. The interactive workshop explores the dynamics of dance from line and design, to rhythm, musicality, emotion, story line and pantomime. Scouts also learn about appropriate audience behavior and what to expect when they attend a live performance!

Workshop participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing (skirts should be avoided) and socks or ballet shoes, if available.

The Springfield Ballet Company’s Girl Scouts Workshop is $25 per participant. This includes**: the one and a half hour workshop, supplemental educational materials and one student ticket to SBC’s performance of  Faerie Tale at Sangamon Auditorium (with choice of attending April 1, 2017, at 2 p.m. or April 2, 2017, at 2 p.m.) **Please note: The cost of the scout badge is not included in this fee. Badge purchases will need to be arranged by troop leaders. However, the exclusive SBC patch IS included in the workshop fee!

And for every 10 participants, we will provide the troop leader with one complimentary adult ticket to the performance! (Additional adult tickets can be purchased on the registration form.)

Registration will close on Monday, February 13, 2017, or when we reach a capacity of 250 participants.

We look forward to seeing you at this year’s workshop and performance of Faerie Tale!

Like all the best tales of enchantment, Faerie Tale involves beautiful princesses, passionate princes, and major obstacles to their happiness. Spectacular dancing, new costumes, a beautiful score by Felix Mendelssohn, a generous dose of humor, and a corps de ballet of mischievous faeries combine to make this production a can’t-miss event.
